« The group of saxophones is an original formation which includes all saxophones from the sopranino one until the bass saxophone. Created by J. P. Caens at his arrival at the music school Darius Milhaud in Aix en Provence in 1995, this formation is the first one of its kind in Provence.

The variety of its tones and the subtlety of its playing modes give it an undeniable appeal for common people but also for today's composers. Indeed, it actively participates to the contemporary musical life, with numerous written works specifically designed for its own purpose, including "Coefficient of angelic viscosity" by C. Gabriele, "Copains d'accord" by Andy Emler, "Vertical poetry" and "Collegian's riff" by D. Badault, "Nocturne" by P. A. Charpy (...).

The group of saxophones is also a formation which can modulate its repertoire, passing from chamber music to a real orchestra. This flexibility allows touching a wide range of repertoires and works, from the most ancient ones to the most recent ones, with composers as prestigious as C. Gabrieli, J. S. Bach, A. Dvorak, M. P. Mussorgsky, S. Barber and many others. Allied to a rhythmical section, it walks again in the paths of jazz, rewriting some standards such as the ones written by D. Gillespie, J. Coltrane, W. Shorter (...). »
